BC's Family-Safe Luxury Transportation

The right vehicle, already fitted with the right child seat — before we ever pull up

Travelling with young children takes more than a clean luxury vehicle — it takes the correct child restraint, correctly installed, every single time. British Columbia's Motor Vehicle Act requires every child to be secured in an approved seat suited to their age, weight and height: rear-facing for infants, a forward-facing harness for toddlers, and a booster until a child turns 9 or reaches 145 cm (4'9"). Getting that right on the day — the angle, the tightness, the harness height — is exactly where most families lose time and confidence.

So we take it off your plate. Tell us your child's age and we confirm the right seat and the right vehicle — an infant rear-facing seat, a convertible toddler seat, or a booster — fitted and safety-checked before we arrive, in a spacious, immaculate luxury SUV or Sprinter. No borrowed seat, no guesswork in a parking lane, no hoping the driver "has something that'll work."

Whether you're bringing a newborn home from the hospital, arriving at YVR Airport with little ones, sending a child to relatives as an unaccompanied minor, having grandparents met and assisted at the airport, or heading to a family wedding — request a child seat vehicle and we handle the rest, across Metro Vancouver and all of BC.

Child Car Seat Service Options

The right child seat for every age — in the right luxury vehicle

From newborns at YVR to school-age children heading to Whistler — NorthLuxDrive confirms a vehicle with the correct seat installed and ready, in a spacious luxury vehicle suited to your group size and journey. Planning the Whistler trip from the US? Our private Whistler tours include the same free child-seat service.

Newborn – 12 months

Infant Rear-Facing Car Seat

A rear-facing infant car seat for babies from birth to approximately 12 months (or up to the seat's maximum weight). BC law requires infants to ride rear-facing until they are at least 1 year old and 9 kg (20 lb); best practice is to keep them rear-facing until they reach the seat's height or weight limit. Specify your infant's age and weight when requesting — your chauffeur will confirm the seat is appropriate.

View SUVs & Spacious Vehicles
1 – 4 years

Convertible Toddler Car Seat

A forward-facing convertible seat for toddlers aged approximately 1–4, once they have exceeded the rear-facing weight or height limit. Convertible seats provide greater protection than a booster for this age group. Confirm your child's age and weight in the notes field so we can match the right seat configuration.

View Luxury SUVs
4 – 9 years

Booster Seat

A high-back or backless booster seat for children aged approximately 4–9, until they can safely use a seatbelt alone (typically 145 cm / 4'9"). BC law requires booster seats for all children who have outgrown their forward-facing seat but are still too small for a seatbelt. Note your child's age and height when booking.

NorthLuxDrive eliminates every uncertainty from family transportation — the right seat and the right vehicle — so you can focus on your family and leave the logistics to us.

BC-Compliant Child Seats

All child seats we provide meet Transport Canada's CMVSS 213 standard and BC Motor Vehicle Act requirements. Every seat is age and size-appropriate for your child, properly anchored using LATCH or seatbelt installation.

Multiple Seats in One Vehicle

Families with two or more children requiring different seat types — say, one infant seat and one booster — can request multiple installations in a Sprinter van or large luxury SUV. We confirm space and seat compatibility before booking.

About Child Car Seat Service in BC

BC child car seat laws, vehicle requirements & what to expect from NorthLuxDrive

British Columbia requires all children to be secured in an approved child restraint appropriate for their age and size. Here's what families need to know about travelling with children in luxury vehicles across Metro Vancouver and BC.

BC Child Car Seat Law — What's Required

British Columbia's Motor Vehicle Act requires child car seats for all children until they can safely use a seatbelt alone. The three stages are: rear-facing infant seat (until the child is at least 1 year old and 9 kg / 20 lb), forward-facing seat with harness (until at least 18 kg / 40 lb), and booster seat (until the child turns 9 or reaches 145 cm / 4'9", whichever comes first). Taxis and buses are exempt, but these rules apply to licensed limousine, private-hire and ride-hail vehicles.

  • Rear-facing: until at least age 1 and 9 kg (20 lb)
  • Forward-facing with harness: until at least 18 kg (40 lb)
  • Booster seat: until age 9 or 145 cm (4'9"), whichever comes first
  • All seats must meet Transport Canada CMVSS 213 standard

Why Rideshares & Taxis Are Not the Answer

In BC, taxis are exempt from child seat rules and rarely carry seats, and rideshare drivers don't provide them — so families are usually left to bring their own. For families arriving at YVR or travelling without their own seat, this creates a significant gap. NorthLuxDrive solves this with our own licensed luxury vehicles and chauffeurs who specifically offer child seat service — pre-installed, compliant, and ready to go.

  • Rideshare drivers in BC are not required to carry child seats
  • Taxis may offer seats but availability is not guaranteed
  • NorthLuxDrive confirms seat availability and type before booking
  • Families travelling with their own seat can also request a compatible vehicle

Travelling to Vancouver with Young Children — Tips

Families visiting Metro Vancouver from other provinces or internationally often face the challenge of sourcing compliant car seats on arrival. Renting a car with a seat add-on, or hoping a cab has one, adds uncertainty. Pre-booking a NorthLuxDrive child seat vehicle removes all of that uncertainty before you land.

  • Book your child seat vehicle before departure — availability is not guaranteed same-day
  • Share your child's exact age, weight, and height for the correct seat type
  • For YVR arrivals, include your flight number — we track it and wait up to 3 hours free
  • For multi-day trips, NorthLuxDrive can arrange daily child seat vehicles for your stay

Every Stage, One Service — Infant to Youth, 4 lb to 120 lb

NorthLuxDrive covers the full child-restraint range British Columbia requires, from newborn to older child — infant to youth, roughly 4 lb to 120 lb. A newborn rides in a rear-facing infant seat, a toddler or preschooler moves to a forward-facing convertible seat, and an older child uses a booster until they're tall enough for the vehicle's own seatbelt at 145 cm. Whichever stage your child is at, we confirm the correct seat with your vehicle before the trip — no gaps as your child grows.

  • Rear-facing infant seats — for newborns, from as little as 4 lb
  • Convertible seats — rear-facing then forward-facing, for toddlers and preschoolers
  • High-back and backless boosters — for older children, up to 120 lb and 145 cm

The Child Seats We Provide — Trusted, CMVSS 213-Approved Models

NorthLuxDrive provides current, well-maintained seats from the brands parents already know and trust — every one meeting Transport Canada's CMVSS 213 standard and carrying the National Safety Mark. Rather than a single generic seat, we match the model to your child's stage so the fit is correct from newborn through the booster years.

  • Rear-facing infant seats — Chicco KeyFit 35, Safety 1st onBoard 35, Graco SnugRide, Clek Liing, Nuna PIPA
  • Convertible seats — Safety 1st Grow & Go 3-in-1, Graco 4Ever, Britax Marathon, Diono Radian, Clek Foonf
  • Booster seats — Clek Ozzi, Graco TurboBooster, Chicco KidFit, Britax Grow With You
  • Every seat meets CMVSS 213, is checked for recalls and expiry, and is retired after any collision

Installed by CPST-Certified Chauffeurs, Confirmed Before Pickup

A car seat only protects a child when it's the right type and correctly secured — so your seat is installed and checked by a CPST-certified chauffeur, a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, then confirmed with your vehicle before pickup rather than left to the day. Share your child's exact age, weight, and height when you book, and we match the correct model and have it ready and installed when your chauffeur meets you.

  • Installed and checked by CPST-certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians
  • Correct model matched to your child's exact age, weight, and height
  • Confirmed with your vehicle before pickup — never sourced last-minute
  • Prefer your own seat? We'll confirm a compatible vehicle instead

Child Car Seat Service vs. Renting a Car with a Seat

Rental car companies offer child seat add-ons, but families frequently report unavailability on the day, poor seat condition, and time-consuming installation in busy rental lots after a long flight. A NorthLuxDrive child seat vehicle eliminates all of this — your seat is professionally installed, your chauffeur meets you at arrivals, and your family is in a clean, spacious luxury vehicle within minutes of clearing customs.

  • Rental car seats: often unavailable, poorly maintained, self-install required
  • NorthLuxDrive: pre-installed, professionally chauffeur-driven, meets you at arrivals
  • Ideal for families who don't want or need a rental car for their full trip
  • More cost-effective than daily rental when transport needs are trip-specific

FAQ

Common questions about child car seat service in Metro Vancouver

Everything families need to know before booking a child-seat-equipped vehicle with NorthLuxDrive.

What child car seat types are available through NorthLuxDrive?

NorthLuxDrive provides three types of child car seats: infant rear-facing seats (for babies from birth to the seat's maximum weight/height, typically up to 12 months), convertible forward-facing seats (for toddlers approximately 1–4 years, once they exceed the rear-facing limit), and booster seats (for children approximately 4–9 years, until they reach 145 cm). Please note your child's age, weight, and height in the booking notes field so we can confirm the correct seat type.

Does BC law require child car seats in private hire and luxury vehicles?

Yes. BC's Motor Vehicle Act Regulations require every child to be secured in an approved child car seat suited to their age and size. Taxis and buses are exempt, but licensed limousine, private-hire and ride-hail vehicles are not. Under BC's Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, the driver is responsible for making sure every child is properly restrained — so our chauffeurs install the seat before pickup and check the fit with you before setting off.

Can I request two different child seats in the same vehicle?

Yes — families with two or more children requiring different seat types can request multiple seat installations in a single vehicle. We recommend a luxury SUV or Mercedes Sprinter van for families needing two or more seats to ensure there is adequate space for safe installation alongside adult passengers. Please note the number of seats required and each child's age in the booking notes.

Is child car seat service available at YVR Airport?

Yes — YVR Airport family pickups with child seats are one of our most commonly requested services. Your NorthLuxDrive chauffeur will meet you at the arrivals hall with a name board, monitor your flight for delays, and have the correct child seat pre-installed in the vehicle. You get up to 3 hours of free waiting at YVR, flight delays included. Include your flight number, airline, and arrival terminal in the booking notes. The service is also available at Abbotsford Airport (YXX) and Bellingham Airport (BLI).

Can I use my own child car seat in a NorthLuxDrive vehicle?

Yes. Families who prefer to use their own approved child car seat can request a compatible vehicle. Please note in the booking form that you will be providing your own seat and include the seat type and installation method (LATCH or seatbelt), so we can confirm the vehicle has the correct anchor points available for your seat.

Do you provide child car seat service for day trips to Whistler or Kelowna?

Yes — child car seat service is available for all NorthLuxDrive routes across BC, including the Vancouver-to-Whistler Sea to Sky corridor and Vancouver-to-Kelowna transfers. A luxury SUV or Sprinter van equipped with the correct seat for your child's age is available for both point-to-point transfers and full-day chauffeur service. Specify your child's seat requirement and your destination when requesting a quote.

How far in advance should I book a child car seat vehicle?

We recommend booking child seat vehicles at least 48–72 hours in advance to allow time to confirm the correct seat type and vehicle availability. For YVR airport arrivals, booking 3–5 days before travel is ideal — especially during peak travel periods (summer, holidays, and long weekends). Same-day requests may be accommodated depending on availability, but advance booking guarantees the right equipment is ready.

Do regular taxis in Vancouver need to carry a child car seat?

No. Standard licensed taxis in BC are specifically exempted from the child car seat requirement under provincial law, so a child can legally travel in a taxi using only a regular seat belt. In practice, most taxi fleets don't carry car seats at all, and the ones that do can't guarantee availability. NorthLuxDrive isn't a taxi — every vehicle we send for a family booking arrives with the correct, pre-installed seat already confirmed, so you're never relying on chance.

Is a car seat required for a child in an Uber or Lyft in BC?

Yes. Unlike traditional taxis, rideshare services are not exempt from BC's child restraint rules, and most rideshare drivers won't carry a seat for you or aren't equipped to install one properly on short notice. If you need a guaranteed, correctly-installed seat, a pre-booked NorthLuxDrive chauffeur removes that uncertainty — the seat is confirmed and fitted before your pickup, not left to chance at curbside.

What are BC's exact age, weight, and height rules for car seats?

In broad terms: infants must ride rear-facing until they reach at least 1 year old and roughly 9 kg (20 lbs), though many families choose to keep a child rear-facing longer if their seat allows it. Once they outgrow rear-facing, children move to a forward-facing harnessed seat until they reach the seat's upper weight or height limit — commonly around 18 kg (40 lbs) and up. From there, a booster seat is required until the child turns 9 or reaches 145 cm (4'9"), whichever comes first. Every seat we provide meets Transport Canada's safety standards for the applicable stage — just share your child's age, weight, and height when booking and we'll confirm the right fit.

Are NorthLuxDrive's child car seats certified and compliant with Canadian safety standards?

Yes. Every seat we provide carries the National Safety Mark and meets Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for its designated stage (infant, convertible, or booster). We also check expiry dates and retire any seat that has ever been involved in a collision, in line with standard child-passenger-safety practice.

Who installs the child car seat, and is it my responsibility to check it?

Our chauffeurs install the seat before pickup, either via the vehicle's LATCH anchors or seatbelt, depending on the seat and vehicle. Under BC's Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, the driver is responsible for making sure every child is properly restrained — so our chauffeurs install the seat before pickup and check the fit with you before setting off. If anything needs tightening or adjusting, your chauffeur takes care of it on the spot.

Is there an extra fee for a child car seat?

No. Infant, convertible and booster seats are free on every booking, so the price is the same as the ride without seats, from $189 between YVR and downtown Vancouver. Tell us how many children are travelling and their ages when you request a quote.

Can I get a child car seat vehicle with same-day or short-notice booking?

We'll always try to accommodate short-notice requests, and same-day bookings are sometimes possible depending on seat and vehicle availability at the time. That said, we can't guarantee the exact seat type on very short notice, so booking at least 48–72 hours ahead — or 3–5 days for YVR arrivals — is the best way to be certain the right equipment is ready when you land.

At what age can a child ride in the front seat in BC?

BC law doesn't set a specific minimum age for the front seat, but the general safety guidance — and our own chauffeur practice — is to keep children in the back seat with an appropriate car seat or booster until they're tall enough to sit safely under a standard seat belt (around 145 cm) and old enough to sit still without leaning on the door or belt. Our chauffeurs will always seat a booked child seat in the rear of the vehicle for maximum protection.

Which areas of BC does NorthLuxDrive's child car seat service cover?

Beyond YVR Airport and Metro Vancouver, we regularly provide child-seat-equipped vehicles across the Lower Mainland, the Sea to Sky corridor to Whistler, the Fraser Valley, and longer transfers to the Okanagan (Kelowna). We can also arrange service to Vancouver Island and other BC destinations on request — just include your route and child's age when requesting a quote so we can confirm seat and vehicle availability.

What's the difference between booking a limo with a car seat versus a taxi or rideshare?

Taxis are legally exempt from carrying car seats, and rideshare drivers typically expect you to bring your own — so in both cases, a properly fitted seat isn't guaranteed unless you supply it yourself. With NorthLuxDrive, the seat type is confirmed at booking, pre-installed and checked before you arrive, and matched to a vehicle with enough room for the seat, your luggage, and your family — removing the guesswork that comes with hailing a standard ride.

Do taxis in BC have child car seats?

Usually not. Taxis are exempt from BC’s child seat rules under the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, so most cabs, including the YVR taxi line, don’t carry infant, convertible or booster seats, and a seat can’t be guaranteed. If your child needs a seat, pre-book a NorthLuxDrive vehicle: the seat is installed before pickup at no extra cost, from $189 between YVR and downtown Vancouver.

How much is a ride from YVR with a car seat?

The same as a ride without one. YVR to downtown Vancouver starts at $189 all-in with the seat installed, Burnaby, North Vancouver or Surrey from $199.50, West Vancouver or the Tri-Cities from $231, and a Sprinter van from $315. Car seats and boosters are always free, and you get up to 3 hours of free waiting at YVR.

Can my baby ride on my lap in a taxi or limo?

Not with us. Even though taxis are exempt from BC’s seat rules, a child held on a lap isn’t protected in a crash. Every child who needs a seat under BC rules (under 9 years old and shorter than 145 cm) rides in the right seat for their age and size, and we bring it free.

How many car seats fit in one vehicle?

There’s no cap. Every passenger seat can take a car seat, except the seat for the accompanying adult, and children always ride in the rear. Larger families ride in a full-size SUV or a Sprinter with room for luggage. Tell us each child’s age and weight when you book and we’ll match the vehicle.

Can you put a car seat in a stretch limo or party bus?

No. A child seat needs a forward-facing vehicle seat with a proper seatbelt or LATCH anchors, and the side-facing seating in stretch limos and party buses can’t hold one safely. Families travelling with car seats ride in a luxury SUV, sedan or executive Sprinter with forward-facing seats, so the seat is installed exactly as the manufacturer intends.

Can I rent a car seat without booking a ride?

No. Our car seats come with the vehicle and chauffeur and aren’t rented separately. If you need a seat for a rental car, ask your rental company. If you’d rather skip the rental altogether, book a ride with us and the right seat is installed and waiting, free of charge.

Do we need a car seat for a trip to Seattle or Bellingham?

Yes. Washington State’s rules are stricter than BC’s: children ride in a booster until they reach 4’9” (145 cm), whatever their age. Your chauffeur brings the right seat for the whole trip, including the border crossing, so your child stays properly seated on both sides of the border.

How long will the chauffeur wait if our flight is late?

Up to 3 hours of free waiting at YVR arrivals, flight delays included. We track your flight in real time, so a late landing with tired kids costs you nothing extra. Your chauffeur waits inside the terminal near the wooden statues, with your name on a tablet.

What is your cancellation policy for child seat bookings?

Cancel at least 24 hours before your pickup and your booking is refunded.

Do you have chauffeurs who speak Farsi, Punjabi, Hindi or Spanish?

Yes. We provide service in English, Farsi, Punjabi, Hindi and Spanish. Mention your language when you book.
